This is an introduction to a music-centered method used to address clients’ specific challenges using relaxation, recorded music, art, journaling, and verbal dialogue. This supportive method uses “music as therapy” and trusts that the client’s mind-body knows what they need to heal and process.

The goal is for the client to engage in music listening in order to develop resources through relaxation, self-awareness and expression of feelings. Additionally, they may develop insight into their patterns in relationships, which may be limiting and creating life challenges. There is a strong emphasis on experiential learning in this workshop and active participation will be expected.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn how to integrate various expressive arts and experiential mind-body therapies into your practice
  2. Experience the healing benefits of music as therapy with individuals and groups
  3. Learn guiding skills to deepen the client’s experience, evoking imagery, emotions, and body awareness
  4. Use mandalas as a Jungian processing technique to help remain in a creative, expansive, “right-brained” experience and explore symbols and archetypes
  5. Utilize journaling to bring the unconscious forward into consciousness
  6. Explore and make meaning out of symbols
  7. Sense how music elicits the wisdom of the body and offers messages for healing
  8. Notice how mindfulness provides a tool for being able to pause and reflect for a deeper knowing
