Final Curve
by Langston Hughes
When you turn the corner
And you run into yourself
Then you know that you have turned
All the corners that are left.
Poetry of Becoming offers a gentle space to meet your inner poet, to bring forth your authentic voice and to honor the unfolding story of who you are becoming. Drawing on poems, expressive writing invitations and shared reflection, Poetry of Becoming is a guided journey through the rich terrain of being human, and an invitation to meet yourself on the page.
You do not have to be a poet or writer to participate in the session. Whether newer to poetry or more experienced, this poetic journey opens the door for participants to trust their creative process, to harvest insights they can carry back into their lives and to experience the benefits of this experiential process.
Learning objectives
- Participants experience poetry and expressive writing as an invitation for self-expression.
- Participants learn that poetry can nurture self-awareness and personal growth.
- Participants are guided through an interactive, process-oriented approach to writing poetry.
- Participants feel encouraged to explore poetry and expressive writing more deeply.
Required Materials
- Please bring a journal and a pen for your writing.
Note: You’ll receive a poetry packet the week of the workshop, please be sure to bring a printed copy. You do not need to read the packet beforehand and will be invited to encounter the poems during the workshop to allow the experiential process to occur in an organic way.
