Therapeutic Movement in the Face of Climate Change is a workshop that will allow participants, through lecture and embodied experience, to learn about and address on a personal level the effects of climate change on mental health. In learning about these impacts, in addition to how the nervous system responds, and dance/movement therapy principles, workshop participants will also gain knowledge about and experience first-hand how tapping into the body’s wisdom can help them to access, practice and build needed resilience for the times ahead.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will gain understanding about climate change and its effects on mental health.
  2. Participants will gain understanding about trauma, stress and nervous system response.
  3. Participants will learn the basic tenets of polyvagal theory and its therapeutic applications.
  4. Participants will learn key dance/movement therapy principles and their application in stressful times.
  5. Participants will learn and practice somatic tools that they can implement in their daily lives, as needed.
